Discovery and conquest of Honduras

1508     Explorations of Vicente Yáñez Pinzón .  
1522     Discovery of the Gulf of Fonseca by Andrés Niño .
1524 Spain   The conquest of Honduras begins . The rebel explorer Cristóbal de Olid arrives in Honduras.
1525 Álvaro de Saavedra Cerón , Diego López de Salcedo . The city of Trujillo is founded by order of Francisco de las Casas Hernán Cortés and Bernal Díaz del Castillo in Honduras.
1536 Francisco de Montejo and Pedro de Alvarado reach an agreement for the latter to obtain jurisdiction over Honduras Various expeditions to Honduras depart from Guatemala . Pedro de Alvarado founds San Pedro Sula .
1537 By order of the Spanish Crown, Francisco de Montejo becomes governor of Honduras. Honduras stands out as the most important precious metals producing region in Central America . Alonso de Cáceres founds the city of Comayagua
1539 The Spanish Crown reinstates Pedro de Alvarado as governor of Honduras Honduras is incorporated into the Captaincy of Guatemala .  
1542     Carlos V creates the Audiencia de los Confines
1578     They discover the Comayagua mines .
1579   Trujillo is attacked by pirates .

1824 Head of state Dionisio de Herrera Dionisio de Herrera becomes the first head of state of Honduras. ( 1825 ): Dionisio de Herrera divided the territory of Honduras into departments .
1829 Head of state Francisco Morazán . First printing press in Honduras.  
1838   Justo Vicente José de Herrera and Díaz del Valle - José María Martínez Salinas Honduras becomes completely independent.
1840   José Francisco Zelaya and Ayes An era of civil wars begins , lasting until 1876 . Francisco Morazán is defeated in Guatemala .
1841 Conservative Francisco Ferrera They discover the Comayagua mines .  
1842   They shoot him in Costa Rica to Francisco Morazan , champion of the Central American Union.
1847 Conservative Juan Lindo The State University of Honduras is founded.  
1853 Liberalism José Trinidad Cabañas The first contract is signed for the construction of the Inter- oceanic National Railroad of Honduras .

1895 Liberal Party Policarpo Bonilla Creation of the Greater Republic of Central America .  
1898   Dissolution of the United States of Central America , a name recently adopted by the Greater Republic of Central America.
1899 Terencio Sierra The arrival of the banana companies in Honduras begins.

1954 Juan Manuel Galvez Strike against the United Fruit Company .  
1961 PLH Ramon Villeda Morales Break in relations with Cuba .  
1963   Coup against Villeda Morales .
1969 Military Oswaldo López Arellano   Soccer War .
1971 PNH Ramon Ernesto Cruz Short presidential term of Ramón Ernesto Cruz.  
1972 Military Oswaldo López Arellano A long period of military rule begins that lasts until 1982 . López Arellano tries to control United Brands. These events ended his mandate.
1978 Military Juan Alberto Melgar Castro Coup led by Melgar Castro.  
1980 Military Policarpo Paz Garcia Peace treaty with El Salvador . Elections are held for the National Constituent Assembly .
1982 PLH Roberto Suazo Córdova Approval of the Constitution . Honduras allows the use of its territory as a base for the Nicaraguan “ cons ”.
1985 PLH Jose Azcona del Hoyo   José Azcona del Hoyo inherits a debt of more than 2,500 million dollars .
1990 PNH Rafael Leonardo Callejas placeholder image A complete liberalization of the economy begins . George HW Bush reduces economic aid to Honduras.
1994 PLH Carlos Roberto Reina Abolition of compulsory military service, dissolution of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation. The longest period of criminal activities in the country begins.
1998 Carlos Flores The Hurricane Mitch plaguing Honduras, leaving more than 10,000 dead and 3,000 million dollars in material losses.
