In this lesson, we will learn important vocabulary related to Health in Kashmiri language. Kashmiri is very rich in vocabulary, and it is necessary to learn relevant words and phrases to communicate effectively in daily life. Health is a universal concern, and the vocabulary related to it is necessary to communicate effectively with doctors and people around us.

  • Person 1: مچھ || [mət͡ʃʰ] (Headache)
  • Person 2: کوجوں کرچھ || [ko:d͡ʒoŋ kərt͡ʃʰ] (Stomachache)

Traditional Medicinal Plants[edit | edit source]

Kashmir has a history of using traditional medicinal plants for keeping oneself healthy. The following are some of the important medicinal plants used by the people.

Hath Panja:

هتھ پنجہ [hət̪ʰ pənd͡ʒɑ:] Hath Panja
خلیہ ادرک [xəli: ədrak] Ginger root
شنجنی [ʃənd͡ʒni:] Dried grape

Dialogue:

  • Person 1: خلیہ ادرک دو نوچن؟ || [xəli: ədrak du: not͡ʃən] (How much ginger should I take?)
  • Person 2: ترسن غلیں لیبے || [trəsan ɣli:n libə] (Take three grams)

In Kashmiri culture, food plays an important role in health. People use various foods to treat many ailments.

کڄری آلو [kutʃəri ɑ:lu] Potato Stew
شو شو کچُر [ʃoʊ ʃoʊ kut͡ʃur] Bone Broth
سنگھارے [sənɡʱɑ:re] Dry fruits

Dialogue:

  • Person 1: میٖٹھٕی نٕہ يیٖژن تچوس؟ || [mi:ṭʰə̃j ni na jo:jon t͡ʃʰus] (Can I eat sweets in diabetes?)
  • Person 2: نٕہ. تِہوں زِیٹ حَنٕٹٕس بِسٹھپەت'. || [na, t̪ihõ ŋxade hanẓat̪is bist̪etʰpadʰ] (No, use stevia instead of sugar)

Exercise is necessary for a healthy body, and the following words will help us to talk about it.

برفنبازی [bərfnəba:zi:] Skiing
شھید پھٹری [ʃəhi:d pʰit̪ɾi:] Squats

  • Person 1: میٹھوٕن تڑکُر کورُن اٹھِمچِ؟ || [mi:thõ t̪əɽkur ko:run ətʰimt͡ʃi] (For how long should I do cycling?)
  • Person 2: پاَچ وچہ زإٰاٌد خیبار کیوٖیکٕی || [pa:ts̪ vakʰ zalad̪ xebaar kyõvẽki] (Do it for 15 minutes daily)
