Mesopotamian Arabic Vocabulary - Geography

Mesopotamia is a region in western Asia situated between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. Here are some words you can use to describe its landforms:

جبل ǧabal Mountain
وادي wādī Valley
نهر naher River
سهل sahl Plain
بحيرة buehērā Lake

Dialogue:

  • Person 1: هونينا في جبل. (Hūnīna fī ǧabal.) - We are here in the mountains.
  • Person 2: جوا نهر جبل يكون حلو بس السفر يطول. (Ǧawwa naher ǧabal ykūn ḥalū bas-safar yṭūl.) - Inside the mountain river is beautiful, but the travel is long.
