MarathiVocabulary0 to A1 Course → Numbers

Counting is one of the fundamental skills you will need as you embark on your journey to learn Marathi. Understanding numbers is crucial not just for basic conversations, but also for practical situations like shopping, telling time, and navigating daily life. This lesson will introduce you to the world of numbers in Marathi, covering both cardinal (counting) and ordinal (ranking) numbers.

Throughout this lesson, we'll explore the numbers from 1 to 20 in detail, providing examples and pronunciation guides to help you master them. We'll also discuss how to express ordinal numbers, which will come in handy when you want to describe positions or sequences. To ensure you get plenty of practice, there will be exercises at the end of the lesson to reinforce what you've learned.

Let's dive in!

Cardinal Numbers[edit | edit source]

Cardinal numbers are the numbers we use for counting. In Marathi, these numbers are essential for basic communication. Here, we’ll learn numbers from 1 to 20.

Numbers 1 to 10[edit | edit source]

The first ten numbers are the building blocks of counting. Here’s a table to help you with the pronunciation and meanings:

Marathi Pronunciation English
एक ek one
दोन don two
तीन teen three
चार chaar four
पाच paach five
सहा saha six
सात saat seven
आठ aath eight
नऊ nau nine
दहा dahaa ten

Numbers 11 to 20[edit | edit source]

Now let’s extend our counting up to twenty:

Marathi Pronunciation English
अकरा akaraa eleven
बारा baaraa twelve
तेरा tera thirteen
चौदा chauda fourteen
पंधरा pandharaa fifteen
सोळा sola sixteen
सतरा sataraa seventeen
अठरा atharaa eighteen

Ordinal Numbers[edit | edit source]

Ordinal numbers indicate position or order. For example, first, second, third, etc. In Marathi, ordinal numbers are formed slightly differently than cardinal numbers. Here are some key ordinal numbers:

दुसरा dusara second
तिसरा tisara third
