Expressing Your Opinion[edit | edit source]
In Libyan Arabic, there are different ways to express your opinion. You can use the following phrases:

For example, you can say:
- برأيي، ليبيا بلد رائع. (bira'iyy, Libya balad rayi'). In my opinion, Libya is a wonderful country.
- على فكرة، الطعام الليبي لذيذ جدا. ('ala fikra, al-Ta'am al-Libyi laDHiiDH jiddan). By the way, Libyan food is very delicious.
- بصراحة، لا أحب الدراسة. (bisa'ara, laa 'uHibb il-drasa). To be honest, I don't like studying.
- بريحة، قائمة الضيوف عندي ١٠ أشخاص. (bariiha, qaa'imt id-Dhiwaf 'indi 'ashkhaaS). To be precise, I have a guest list of 10 people.
Offering an Alternative Opinion[edit | edit source]
In discussions, you might want to offer an alternative opinion rather than agreeing with everything. In Libyan Arabic, you can use phrases such as:

For instance:
- لكن، أعتقد أن السياسة في ليبيا بحاجة إلى تحسين. (lakin, 'a'taqid 'an as-siyaasa fi Libya biHajjah 'iilaa tahseen). But, I think that politics in Libya needs improvement.
- بالعكس، ليبيا أفضل بكثير مما يظن البعض. (b-al-'aks, Libya 'afDal b-kaThiir mimma yaDun al-ba'D). On the contrary, Libya is much better than what some people think.
- ولكن، لا يزال هناك الكثير للقيام به. (w-lakin, laa yazal hunak al-kaThiir lil-qiyaam bih). However, there is still a lot to be done.
Giving Reasons for Your Opinion[edit | edit source]
To clarify your opinion, you need to give reasons to support your position. In Libyan Arabic, you can use phrases such as:

Here are some examples:
- لأن هذا المطعم يقدم الأكل اللذيذ، فإنني أفضله. (li'ann haDHaa al-maT'am yuqaddim al-aql al-ladhiidh, fa-'innani 'afDHaluh). Because this restaurant serves delicious food, I prefer it.
- من المتوقع أن يزداد الطلب على هذا المنتج في المستقبل. (min al-mutaawaqi' 'an yazdaad at-talab 'ala haadha al-muntaj fi al-mustaqbal). It is expected that the demand for this product will increase in the future.
- يجب العمل على تحسين حالة المستشفيات في ليبيا. (yajib al-'amal 'ala tahseen haalat al-mustashfaat fi Libya). We must work on improving the conditions of hospitals in Libya.
- إذا لم تذهب إلى الطبيب ستشعر بالألم أكثر. ('iDHa lam tadhhab 'ila at-tabiib satash'ar bil-'alam 'akthar). If you do not see a doctor, you will feel more pain.
Dialogue[edit | edit source]
Here is a dialogue to give you an idea of how to use these phrases in context:
- Person 1: برأيك، ما هو السياسي الأفضل في ليبيا؟ (bira'ik, ma huwa as-siyaasi al-'afDal fi Libya? What do you think, who is the best politician in Libya?)
- Person 2: على فكرة، أعتقد أن شخصية المشير خليفة حفتر تتمتع بشعبية كبيرة هذه الأيام. ('ala fikra, 'a'taqid 'an shakhsiyyat al-mushiiir Khalifah Huftaar tatawamadu bish'abiyyah kabiirah haadha al-'ayyaam). By the way, I think that the personality of Marshal Khalifa Haftar is very popular these days.
- Person 1: بالعكس، أعتقد أنه ليس الأفضل. (b-al-'aks, 'a'taqid 'annahu lays al-'afDal). On the contrary, I think he is not the best.
- Person 2: لكن، نجد أن العديد من الليبيين يدعمونه. (lakin, najid 'an al-'adeed min al-Libyiin yuda'muunuh). But, we find that many Libyans support him.
- Person 1: إضافة إلى العنف الذي يرتكبه في بعض المناطق. (iDhaafah 'iilaa al-'unf al-ladhi yartakibu fi ba'D il-manaaTiq). In addition to the violence he commits in some areas.
- Person 2: بالطبع، يجب وضع حد لهذا العنف. (b-al-Taba'an, yajib wuD'u Hadd lihathaa al-'unf). Of course, we must put an end to this violence.
