Gulf Arabic Vocabulary - Colors

Colors play a significant role in Gulf Arabic culture. Gulf Arabs express their love and respect by using colors. For example, green is considered a holy color, and it represents new life in Gulf Arab cultures. In contrast, black is a color of mourning, and white is a symbol of holiness and purity.

  • هذا الفستان الوردي جميل جداً. (haḏā al-fastān al-waradī ǧamīlun ǧiddan.) - This pink dress is very beautiful.
  • القميص الأبيض يليق بك. (al-qamīṣ al-abyaḍ yalīq bika.) - The white shirt looks good on you.
  • المنزل أبيض بالكامل. (al-manzil ʔabyaḍ bil-kāmil.) - The house is completely white.
  • أنت تحب اللون الأحمر والأصفر أكثر من اللون الأخضر. (ʔanta tuħib al-lawn al-ʔaḥmar wal-ʔaṣfar ʔakṯar min al-lawn al-akhḍar.) - You prefer red and yellow more than green.
  • السيارة السوداء تبدو رائعة. (al-sayyārah al-sawdāʔ tabdū rāʔiʻah.) - The black car looks fantastic.

Dialogue[edit | edit source]

Ahmad: لون السيارة المفضل لديك هو أي لون؟ (Lawnu al-sayyārah al-mufaḍḍal ladayka huwa ʔayy lun?) (What's your favorite car color?)

Sara: أحب اللون الأحمر. (ʔuħibbu al-lawn al-ʔaḥmar.) (I love the color red.)

Ahmad: أجد اللون الأزرق مريحًا ولطيفًا. (ʔajidu al-lawn al-ʔazraq murīḥan wal-ṭayyifan.) (I find blue color comforting and nice.)

Sara: أما أنا فأحب اللون الأسود. (ʔamā ʔanā fa-ʔuħibbu al-lawn al-aswad.) (For me, I love the color black.)
