Cultural Information[edit | edit source]

In Fon culture, traditional medicine plays an essential role in dealing with health issues. Many people believe in natural remedies, such as herbs and plants, for treating different ailments. The Fon people are known to use medicinal plants, such as nchuanwu (scent leaf), uziza, and uda, for different health conditions such as cold, fever, and stomach pain. These traditional practices have been passed down through generations and are still widely used today.

Interesting Facts[edit | edit source]

- Did you know that the Fon people have a unique way of treating headaches? They use věvě, a traditional form of massage that involves pressing fingers into specific points of the head to relieve tension and pain.

- Another interesting fact is that Fon people traditionally use dzo (sawdust) to help treat cuts and wounds. They apply it to the wound to stop the bleeding and help it heal.

- The Fon people also believe that some illnesses are caused by witchcraft and have traditional beliefs in supernatural healing. These beliefs still exist in some parts of Fon society today.
