Armenian Vocabulary - Health

Hi Armenian learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will be learning the essential Armenian vocabulary necessary to talk about health. Health is a crucial topic, and we must be able to describe our physical and mental state when in need of medical attention. You will learn vocabulary related to the human body, common ailments, and medical attention. By the end of this lesson, you will be able to hold conversations regarding health in Armenian.

Human Body[edit | edit source]

Before diving into the medical terms, we need to know the basic terms of the human body:

Armenian Pronunciation English
գլուխ gluḵ head
ակնոց aknocs neck
սիրտ siṙt heart
կրծք krcʿkʿ chest
աջ բարակ aj baraḵ right arm
ձախ բարակ jaḵ baraḵ left arm
սիրտախումբ siṙtaxumb lungs
բերան beran mouth
ականջ akanj eyes
մազ maz muscle
մեջք meǰkʿ stomach
ատամ atam bone

Now, let's use a dialogue to see these words in context:

  • Person 1: Ի՞նչ է դու կարող կապել։ (Inch e du karog kapel?) (What hurts?)
  • Person 2: Ատամները շարունակ են ցանկալիներով կամացող։ (Atamnerə sharunauer en tsanakalienov kamatsog։) (My bones are aching.)

Common Ailments[edit | edit source]

Now that we know the basic terms of the human body, let's learn some common ailments:

ախորժակ axorjak fever
գազարներ gazarner gas
գիտակ gitak headache
տաք tak hot
խոնապարհի խորան khonaparhi khoran leg

Here's another dialogue to see the words in use:

  • Person 1: Ի՞նչ կանգնածներ ունես։ (Inch kangnatsnər unes?) (What are your symptoms?)
  • Person 2: Ուժնդուգին եմ ունենում, գիտակի, խոնապարհում խորանը կամացող, քայլիկով։ (Ujndogin em unenoom, gitaki, khonaparhum khoranē kamatsog, k’aylikov.) (I have a headache, leg pain, and flu.)

Medical Attention[edit | edit source]

If you're feeling unwell or need medical attention, it's essential to know how to express yourself in Armenian. Here are the words you're likely to come across:

Armenian Pronunciation English
բժշկ bzhshekh doctor
մամուլ mamul nurse
ստորև պարապետ storēv parapet pharmacist
բաժանել bazhanel divide
նշել nshel prescribe
դիմել dimel refer
ստուգել stugel check

Let's see some of these words in use:

  • Person 1: Կարող ե՞ք իմ օտարներին դիմել։ (Karog eeq im otaṙnerin dimel?) (Can you refer me to my relatives?)
  • Person 2: Այո, բացահայացրեք ձեր բժշկին։ (Ayo, bac’ahayats’gerēk’ jere bzhshekhin.) (Sure, I'll introduce you to my doctor.)
