Hi Bengali learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn about negation in the Bengali language. Negation is an important part of any language, and it is essential to understand how to use it correctly. We will look at the different ways to express negation in Bengali, as well as some examples of how to use them.
Negation is a way of expressing the opposite of something. In Bengali, there are several ways to express negation:
Particle না (na)
The most common way is to use the particle না (na). This particle is used to negate verbs, adjectives, and nouns. For example:
- আমি খেলছি না - Ami khelchi na (I am not playing)
- এটা ভাল না - Eta bhal na (That is not good)
- তারা আমার বন্ধু না - Tara amar bondhu na (They are not my friends)
- আমি কখনও এখন ঘুম ভাল না লাগে। (Ami kokhonoi ekhon ghoom bhal na lage.) - I never feel good about sleeping now.
- তুমি কি আমার কাছে ভাল না লেগে? (Tumi ki amar kache bhal na lego?) - Don't you feel good around me?
- সে কখনও তার বই পড়ে না। (Se kokhonoi tar boi pore na.) - He never reads his books.
- আপনি আমাকে বুঝি না। (Apni amake bujhi na.) - You don't understand me.
- আমি এখন খেতে চাই না। (Ami ekhon khete chai na.) - I don't want to eat now.
Particle নি (ni)
In addition to using the particle না (na), Bengali also uses the particle নি (ni) to express negation. This particle is used to negate adverbs and adverbial phrases in Bengali. Here are some examples:
- তারা এখনো সমস্যা সমাধান করে নি - They have not yet solved the problem.
- তুমি বাংলা ভাষা সহজে শিখতে পারো নি - You cannot learn Bengali language easily.
- আমি তাদের কাছে সত্য বলতে পারিনি - I cannot speak the truth in front of them.
- তারা মজা করতে পারে নি - They cannot have fun.
- আমি সকালে উঠতে পারি নি - I cannot wake up early in the morning.
Using the particle নি (ni) provides an additional way to express negation in Bengali, allowing for more precise communication and expression. By learning how to use both particles, learners can expand their vocabulary and improve their communication skills in Bengali.
Particle নেই (nei)
In Bengali, the particle নেই (nei) is used to negate nouns and noun phrases. Here are some examples:
