Algonquin, also called Anicinapemiȣin or Anishinàbemiwin (Anicinàbemowin), is a dialect of Ojibwa in the central branch of the Algonquian language family. It is spoken by the Algonquin people of Quebec and Ontario. Algonquin is also a dialect commonly referred to as Anishinaabemowin, although this term actually refers to the Ojibwe language. In the various Aboriginal communities, Algonquin is in constant contact with French and English, and only a quarter of the Algonquin population still speaks it.
