Hi Southern Kurdish learners! 😊

We will look at the different types of questions, as well as the grammar rules that apply when asking questions. By the end of this lesson, you should have a good understanding of how to ask questions in Southern Kurdish.

Types of Questions

There are two main types of questions in Southern Kurdish: yes/no questions and wh-questions.

Yes/No Questions

Yes/no questions are questions that can be answered with either a yes or a no. These types of questions usually start with one of the following words:

  • ez
  • çi
  • ku

For example:

  • Ez tu dixwazî biçî? (Do you want to come?)
  • Çi tu dixwazî? (What do you want?)
  • Ku tu dixwazî? (Why do you want?)

Wh-Questions

Wh-questions are questions that start with a question word such as who, what, when, where, why, or how. These types of questions usually require more information than a yes/no answer.

For example:

  • Çawa tu dixwazî? (How do you want?)
  • Çi tu dixwazî? (What do you want?)
  • Kî tu dixwazî? (Who do you want?)

Grammar Rules

When asking questions in Southern Kurdish, there are a few grammar rules that you should keep in mind.

  • The verb always comes first in the sentence.
  • The subject of the sentence comes after the verb.
  • The question word comes at the end of the sentence.

For example:

  • Dixwazî tu çi? (What do you want?)
  • Tu çawa dixwazî? (How do you want?)
  • Tu kî dixwazî? (Who do you want?)
