Kosraean (sometimes called "Kosraean French"; often "Kusaie") is a Micronesian language spoken in the state of Kosrae in the Federated States of Micronesia. Its exact classification within the Micronesian subgroup is debated. It is spoken by approximately 8,000 speakers (Johnstone and Mandryk, 2001) in the state, 8,570 speakers worldwide (Caroline Islands, Nauru and the United States). Its main dialects are Lelu-Tafunsak and Malen-Utwe. Its lexicon is 26% similar to that of Ponapeen. It is the official language of the eponymous state.
