Norfolk Island - Spoken by: 650 speakers
Norfolk (or Norfuk) is the language of Norfolk Island. It is derived from English and Tahitian. Norfolk is close to Pitcairn. Norfolk is spoken by 650 speakers in Norfolk, or around 33% of the island's residents. It differs from the Creole spoken in Pitcairn by variations, resulting from some 150 years of isolation between the two Creoles, after the departure for the Norfolk Islands of the natives of Pitcairn in the mid-19th century. Thus, the vocabulary received English words, and some words of Polynesian origin may have another meaning or are no longer used.
