Sabah is one of two states in East Malaysia. It is the second Malaysian state by area (76,115 km2), after its neighbor the state of Sarawak. It is located in the northeast of the island of Borneo. The main city and capital of the state is Kota Kinabalu. In 2015, its population in sharp increase amounts to 3.54 million who mainly populate the coastal regions because the interior of the territory is largely covered by a thick jungle. This one threatened by an abusive logging and the multiplication of the plantations intended to produce palm oil, shelters a remarkable fauna. Despite the abundance of its natural resources (tropical timber, gas, oil, palm oil), Sabah has long lagged behind in development compared to the Malaysian peninsula. Thanks to significant investments, it is catching up. Sabah is known as the “Land under the Wind”.
