	Niuan is an Oceanic language, from the Austronesian language family and the Malayo-Polynesian languages. It is the only national language of Niue and, along with English, one of the two official languages of the country. Most of the speakers now reside in Niue but also in New Zealand within the Niuean diaspora. They are quite closely related to the Tongan and together form the Tongan group.
