B: Fine, Tom. What about you?

T: I am ok, thanks.

B: Have you heard about Rufus and Liza?

T: No, I haven’t. What happened?

B: Rufus tried carrying out his plan to kill Liza after being let out of jail.

T: Why?

B: It is alleged that when he was in prison, He made out two lists: one of his enemies and one of his friends. At first, Liza was in the latter. Particularly, he would have liked to sort their problem out. However, as she never turned out to the jail to look him up, Rufus started being suspicious.

Therefore, with the help of a fellow inmate who later broke out, he found out that his wife was actually cheating on him with her dentist. At that very moment, all his patience gave out and he rubbed out her name from the friend list. Instead, he put it at the top of the enemy list.

T: And then, what happened?

B: While Rufus was still in jail he thought out a plan to kill her without leaving any trace. So he gave up the idea of setting off a bomb in his wife’s house. He decided to first approach her pretending that he didn’t know about her affair so as to get her trust.

T: How did she react when he was released?

B: She passed out when she received the news of his release. Nevertheless, when Liza met him the first time she was positively struck by him.

T: Why?

B: Rufus told her that he was now a new man and that he was planning to become a social worker. He even started handing out gifts to poor people. He also asked her to eat out in a new Italian restaurant which had just branched out in their neighbourhood. So Liza decided to give him a second chance, although her friends advised her to look out.

T: And then what happened?

B: After two months from his release, Rufus started carrying out his evil plan. One day, while she was out, Rufus laid out all his equipment in a secret spot of the garden: a helmet cap, two guns, a pair of gloves, and a big knife as well as a new copy of the keys of the house. In fact, he realized that she could lock him out. Then, after checking out if it was still sharp, He picked out the knife, and he waited hidden in the house until his wife’s return.

T: Did his plan work out?

B: No, it didn’t.

T: Why?

B: Luckily, when Liza came back home, she saw his body hidden behind a sofa, and she realized that he wanted to kill her because his knife was sticking out from his pocket. So, she cried out to get help from onlookers. It was pointed out that she was very lucky because the first passer-by was a policeman who knocked at the door almost immediately. As a result, Rufus threw out the chance to kill her and had to slip out from the back door.

T: Is Rufus being searched for by the police now?

B: Yes, he is now the first man suspected on the police list, and in the meantime, a judge has ruled out that he can approach his wife’s house anymore.

T: So is Liza happy because he has to keep away from her property?

B: I don’t think she will ever get over this bad experience.

If you don’t pay the electricity bill, you will be '''cut off''' without notice.

'''Cut off''' a piece of chocolate for me!

The scene of crime wasn’t cordoned off, so the police lost key evidences.

That stain wont’ '''come off''' and even if you wash that shirt several time, you will only succeed in wearing it out.
Unfortunately his plan didn’t '''come off'''.
We '''broke off''' our engagement last month.

Why don’t we '''break off''' before we are too tired to focus on the issue?

This marmalade '''is off'''. Don’t eat it!

T: Hi Barbara! How is it going?

B: Good, Tamara. What about you?

T: I am fine, thanks.

B: Have you heard about Paul and Sandra?

T: No, I haven’t. What happened?

B: Not only did they split up but Sandra has also filled up
a form to divorce.

T: Shut up! I am not
eating it up, Barbara! They were such a nice couple since childhood as they
grew up together!

B: Trust me, I am not making this story up. I have just
looked Paula up at her new flat and she owned up everything to me. She was so
broken that she couldn’t bottle up her feelings.

T: But why is their marriage breaking up? Please, speak up!

B: I will, but only if you swear not to let this story on.

T: I swear.

B: Apparently several problem cropped up. Everything
happened when Paul came back home after being called up. He started behaving
strangely: He gave up his business, he took up stamp collection and stayed up
until late watching television. As he didn’t get up in the morning, Sandra was
forced to bring up their children alone as well as to work hard to settle up
their debts. Incidentally, since prices shot up, she had to work extra at the
weekends.

T: So how did she react?

B: Basically, one day, after clearing her mind up, she was
turned up by his reckless behaviour and she flared up: when Paul was out she
cut up all his stamps . Then, after sealing up a harsh farewell letter, she
left for good.

T: And what did Paul do?

B: He was so furious that his friends had to tie him up to
hold him up! He was even thinking to refer to a solicitor to draw up a claim
against her for its damaged precious stamp collection. But then, he gave up.

T: Did he try making peace?

B: Yes, but every time Paul phoned her, Sandra immediately
hung up and when he pulls up outside her new flat she pretends she is not at
home. To sum up, she doesn’t want to see him anymore.

T: This story is so sad.

B: Come on, cheer up! Let’s talk about something else.

T: All right.

B: Are you going to Jack’s party tonight?

T: Yes, I am. Mark is picking me up at 9’ o clock and I am
really looking forward to going there.

B: I heard that he has paid a band to liven the party up.

T: That will be marvellous!

B: Are you going too?

T: I have to train at the gym until 11 o’ clock but I hope
to catch you up later on.

B: Are you still building up your strength in view of the
next marathon?

T: Yes, I am. As a matter of fact, I have found out that It
will be a fierce competition as great competitors will show up. Okay, now I
really gotta go, otherwise I will arrive late at my classes.

B: Hurry up and see you later!

T: Cheers.
