I was frustrated by the sudden and unwanted correction. She had uttered it with a tone of disbelief, as if to say, “you don’t know this?” — or that is at least how I perceived it. Making that mistake and receiving that kind of correction left me with a stinging feeling that lingered all the way back to Warsaw.
