Il n'y a pas une, mais plusieurs langues chinoises comparables à des dialectes. Mais, si vous voulez parler un chinois fonctionnel, commencez par le mandarin.
Selon la ville ou la région de Chine où vous vous trouvez, les Chinois ne parlent pas nécessairement mandarin entre eux, mais tous le connaissent et peuvent le parler avec vous sans aucun problème. Les caractères chinois sont les mêmes dans toutes les langues chinoises, mais leur prononciation et certains de leurs mots diffèrent.
Mise à part quelques chaînes en cantonais, la télévision, la radio et tous les médias sont en mandarin !
