Trip to Tokyo and Kyoto!

I'm visiting Tokyo and Kyoto in May with my Fiance.  I'd like to meet some friends on this website that I can learn a little more about Japan.  Even though I live in New York, and there are plenty of Japanese resteaurants, I  dont know a single Japanese person.  If somebody out there in Japan would like to know a little more about the US or NY in particular, please feel free to respond.  Thinking ahead to my trip, I'm feeling a little nervous since I think we will get so lost!  We are going by ourselves and did not book any tour guides.  Wish us luck!
