Hajimemashite Winnie yoroshiku onegaishimasu...Nihongo wa amari hanasemasen... Kanada kara kimashita...Watashi would love to have japanese counterparts to practice my speaking with. I'm a beginner but I know the basics such as counting, dates, colors, cardinal points, basic questions and greetings, days of the week, months and such. My native tongue is english but I've always attended french school so I'm fluent in that language spoken as well as written. So in exchange I'm able to teach english and french.

aokiAugust 2008 I would say, Kochira ha atsuku arimasen. Samui desu. Atsui is an adjective. And the conjugasons of Atsui are, Atsu-i ... It is hot. Atsu-ku nai ... It isn't hot. Atsu-katta. ... It was hot. Atsu-ku nakatta ... It wasn't hot. Samui / Samuku nai is also the same.   The last "ku" of atsukunaku means "and" So, "atsuku naku samui" means "not hot and cold".   Native Japanese hardly use "atsui ja arimasen" but they can understand the meaning. So you can use it.
HarrysukeJuly 2008 sumimasen takec-san but what atusku and atukunaku means? sumimasen. kochirawa atusku nai desu , samui desu. kochirawa atukunaku samui desu.
takecJuly 2008 Hello Hurrysuke sochira - there / kochira - here simply say kochirawa atusku nai desu , samui desu. more simply kochirawa atukunaku samui desu. its' better. takec
HarrysukeJuly 2008 the other day takec-san asked: sochira mo atsui desuka. and i answered: sochira ha atsui ja arimasen. sochira ha samui desu. which is wrong. i just realized it last night when i did a revision. the correct answer will be: kochira ha atsui ja arimasen. kochira ha samui desu. takec-san used the polite form (kochira, sochira) replacing kore and sore.
