            How do you get past that awkward stage in the beginning? What do you do if you can't understand each other? I was thinking about getting a marker and a white board (to draw symbols, pictures, just in case). How did u coordinate the time zone differences?

Hey,

I know this response is like two years late, but I have some advice that could possibly help you out. I haven't yet done a language exchange either, but there's this amazing website called italki that works pretty well for language exchanges. It even coordinates out the times for you and your partner no matter where in the world they live. Hope this helps.
